Hitachi Magic Wand Massager
Since its introduction, products of all shapes and sizes have come and gone, but none have had an impact like the Magic Wand’s. It has been included among the most iconic inventions of the twentieth century, dubbed the “little black dress” of massagers, and remains the best-selling massage wand of all time.
Lynn Comella, author of Vibrator Nation: How Feminist Sex-Toy Stores Changed the Business of Pleasure, explains via email: ” Maybe more than any other vibrator, the wand has gained a kind of cult status as a icon of female sexual empowerment, with a following and popularity that spans generations.”
As soon as you get a hold on to the Magic Wand you know it’s a high-end quality product.
Anniversary of 52 years in 2020, Hitachi has been manufacturing the Magic Wand to excellence since 1968. Their reputation for using high-quality components and producing a personal massager that is built to last still holds true today. The Magic Wand Rechargeable can confidently claim to be the highest quality and safest massager in the world.
The Hitachi Magic Wand Original
This is the legendary Magic Wand Original, the one that started it all. Back when every phone had a cord and “going viral” meant something COMPLETELY different, women around the world were discovering the mind-blowing pleasure of the Magic Wand. Cosmopolitan Magazine called it the “little black dress” of massagers, and Time Magazine named it among the top ten “Most Influential Gadgets of All Time.” Even at fifty, the Magic Wand vibrators are still turning heads as the most recommended and best-selling massage wand in America! But what makes this wand so magical is no big secret: power. Its six-foot cord plugs into the wall for continuous use and an OMG-worthy 6,000 RPM top speed. It features a soft, vinyl head for external stimulation, an intuitive control that lets you select high or low power, and the protection of a one-year warranty.

It features a soft, silicone head, flexible neck, and the continuous power you can only get from a plug-in massager. The Magic Wand Rechargeable
The Wand Rechargeable vibrators from Hitachi are truly an evolution in pleasure. Thanks to its cordless convenience, you can now bring the legendary power of these vibrators anywhere you go – but that’s just a piece of what makes this wand so magical. Similar in size and shape to the corded Original, the Magic Wand Rechargeable is a brand-new take on the classic version. It features a soft, silicone head, flexible neck, and a long-lasting battery that delivers power up to an unbelievable 6,300 RPM! Putting you in control, the Hitachi Rechargeable offers four intensity levels as well as four different vibration patterns that are easily selected using the intuitive buttons. And it can even operate while plugged in, so the party can keep going and going. This winning combination of features has earned the Magic Wand Rechargeable a place at the top of everyone’s list.
Hitachi Magic Wand Massager is first and foremost a massager developed with a focus on functionality, quality and design.
These core areas have been uncompromisingly implemented in the product. The Magic Wand is a so-called “ball-top” vibrator. The Japanese brand Hitachi introduced its ball-top vibrator to the American market in the early 1970s.
The Hitachi Magic Wand was produced as a shoulder massager, but quickly became a symbol in the “liberation of the female orgasm” thanks to popular orgasm expert Betty Dodson. The ball-top vibrator from Hitachi has a permanent place in orgasm classes and is a bestseller on the American market. This has also earned it nicknames, such as “The Cadillac” and “The Queen of Vibrators.” In recent years, the famous “magic wand” appeared in the series “Sex and the City” and the book “Fifty “Fifty Shades of Grey“.

Some tips on using the Magic Wand massager
If you’ve never seen a magic wand, you’re probably thinking something along the lines of ‘Uh, hi, I actually do know how to use a vibrator’. The magic wand is a tad different: its tennis ball-sized head has an incredible amount of hyper-charged power.
In my experience, there are two fundamental steps to have success with the magic wand:
1) Protect your privacy.
The wand’s biggest advantage is also its biggest disadvantage: it’s noisy. The good news is that it runs on electricity, so you don’t have to worry about the battery running out at the crucial moment, and it is astonishingly powerful. It is, in a word, effective, if you know what I mean, and I think you do. (From no orgasm to orgasm in 30 seconds or less? Yes, of course.) However, the wand does make a whirring sound that isn’t exactly subtle, so before you use it, close the door and put on some mood music or something.
Also keep it in a drawer where your kids can’t rummage through it.
2) Check vibrations.
Most battery-powered toys are designed to be used directly on your bare privates, but as we discussed earlier, the Magic Wand is not a battery-powered toy. Its two vibration modes are 5,000 and 6,000 RPM, which are SERIOUS RPM. I recommend starting with the “slightly slower, but still almost overpowering” setting for maximum sexual results. Keep your underwear on for the first round, or lie on the bed or a pillow to dampen the vibrations. You can also buy accessories that allow you to control the speed more finely.
How well does the Hitachi Magic Wand do?
Hitachi’s Magic Wand is, in a word, crazy. It’s a foot in length, almost from the palm of my hand to my elbow, with a vibrating head that’s 2 inches high, 2.5 inches wide, and 7.5 inches high, the equivalent of a tennis ball. It’s not meant to go inside you, but rather to massage your sore muscles, shoulders, back and….. externally for massage. Oh, and if your vulva and clitoris are achy, that’s also a good spot to work on. At close to 2 pounds, the Hitachi is by far the weightiest vibrator I know of. Plus, you plug it into a wall outlet, which means that not only is it incredibly powerful, but it can also be considered a household appliance. The cable is 6 feet long – which is perfect for me keeping it on the side of the bed (or couch…or desk), but it can be tricky if you’re away from the wall or have a high bed. It’s all plastic on the outside, except for a small metal edge along the handle that your hand doesn’t even have to touch to control the vibration. The last of these benefits is the vibration and power…which, oh my. How can this be legal?
History of massagers
Because the vibrator celebrated its 150th anniversary in 2019 – congratulations! Nadine Beck from the University of Marburg is researching the “vibrating dildo” for her doctoral thesis. In the accompanying illustrated book “Plug + Play: 150 Jahre Vibrator – Ein Jubelband” (Jonas Verlag), the cultural scientist illustrates the highlights of the toy.
Readers learn that the first vibrator was patented in 1869 by New York physician George Henry Taylor. It was a steam-powered “shaking and kneading apparatus” for treating pelvic and inguinal hernia disorders. Still medically oriented, but much more handy was the “Percuteur” by the Englishman Joseph Mortimer Granville. It was intended to alleviate nerve disorders by means of various attachments. That these devices (as often claimed) were misappropriated to relieve women of signs of “hysteria” is, however, strongly doubted in the scientific world, writes Nadine Beck.
Electric devices with a vibration massage function increasingly found their way into German households at the beginning of the 20th century – first for self-healing, later also for sexual stimulation, as erotic films have documented since the 1950s.
The “Magic Wand” as a bestseller
Technically, we’ve come a long way since then, but the power of vibrations still resonates. The white and blue “Wand” is one of the world’s best-known vibrators. As early as the late 1960s, American sex educator Betty Dodson recommended it as a masturbation aid in her masturbation classes, although it was originally intended to treat back pain. She advised placing a towel between the powerful device and the vulva to avoid overstimulating the clitoris, Nadine Beck writes.
Mentioned on “Sex and the City,” it became an absolute bestseller in the United States. But the traditional Japanese company was uncomfortable that so many people associated the name with a sex toy. Therefore, production was to be stopped in 2013 (engadget.com). Eventually, sex toy manufacturer “Vibratex” convinced Hitachi to continue producing the popular classic after a redesign, allowing the “Magic Wand” to celebrate its 50th birthday in 2018. On the US market, it can now be found under the name “Magic Wand Original”. On the European market, however, it is hard to get and even then it can only be used with an adapter, as its mains connection does not fit German sockets. Fortunately, the success of the Hitachi “Magic Wand” inspired countless imitators, who have since provided magic moments all over the world.
